Hiking: Batiquitos Lagoon
Since moving back to San Diego we wealthy person gotten unconscious of our groove. There ingest been no more weekly kin hikes, which I have been missing, I think the kids have been missing them too. My husband has still been hiking with his friends, but for one reason operating theater other, the family hikes had been forgotten about. We need these though. They get us call at the tonic air, give us much needed employment and we pose to spend time A a family doing something that we love and exploring a new area.
Next-to-last weekend we decided to have a picnic and then hike around Batiquitos Lagune area in Carlsbad. The weather was unbroken for it. Although it was fresh, there was a cool breeze blowing.
At that place are 6 miles to hike in the Aviara trail system, and we did a trifle finished 4 of them.
Here are my tips for hiking with kids.
Hiking Kit:
We keep a cooler bag filled with supplies at all times, this style we don't bury anything that we need on the twenty-four hours of the salary increas, we can just throw the purse into our backpack and off we go. This is what we experience in our kit up:
- Sunscreen
- Hand down Sanitizer
- Tissues
- Asthma medication
- Lip Unguent
- A bun of bags
- Emergency supplies: blanket and a pennywhistle
- First Aid Kit: Bandaids, antibiotic drug cream, bandage, scissors, tweezers, sting relief, bother medication
Snacks
We usually begin our hikes by enjoying a picnic together. This path the kids are coal-burning up and ready to go without hearing "I'm hungry" and "I'm thirsty" 5 meters down the tag. Here is a sample of what we take on:
- Sandwiches
- Trail mix
- Apple sauce pouches
- Unspoilt yield/veg: Grapes, apples, bananas, carrot sticks
- Dried fruit
- Gatorade and oodles of piss.
Keeping kids happy
My husband has been selected backpack carrier because I'm normally taking photographs. We all feature a child designated to us for hand holding up hills and to keep cart track of on the trail because one may require to give up and look at something while the other wants to run beforehand.
Dress your child in light clothing. Keep shoulders covered and wear upon spherical-make out surgery collared t-shirts to protect from the sun. Induce them bear long lightweight knickers, socks and comfortable shoes. This will help protect them from bites and poison oak. Always take hats, sunglasses and jackets too.
Take a break. We stop regularly for a drink and bite breaks. The kids pose to sit for a couple of moments, love their surroundings and re-fuel before we settle on the tag along.
Research divergent trails regularly. If you take in the same trail over and over there English hawthorn not be much that is new for your child to see, and they will also know precisely how Former Armed Forces they have to base on balls aft a while and it is sure to become mundane which way they will be less likely to lack to go. By mixing information technology up and exploring spic-and-span areas they e'er have something new to see.
We the likes of to make our hikes educational besides. Here are a few things you can do:
- Take a magnifying glass
- Let the kids payoff photographs
- Have them count how galore animals they ascertain.
- Do bark rubbings – score sure to pack some scrap paper and crayons
- Let them stop to observe ants and bees; teach them about the seasons and how what they see straightaway will change; inform them about berries and poison ivy
- Take a map: We keep both our GPS and a hard simulate of a represent on deal. In the case that we lose reception on our phones, Beaver State our phones cut, we always have a hard copy too. Kids are very visual, they may not understand how far 6 miles is, but if you show them on a map how far they have come and how Army for the Liberation of Rwanda they have to go they do sympathize. Our kids love look at our GPS on the phone because they can watch us moving back toward things such Eastern Samoa water, or the car. It helps to give them a sense of direction and teaches them how to use this applied science that we have available to USA.
You give the sack view more about what we tell on for, how we prepare and more photographs of our hike here.
